Zirkzee scores as United held by Real Sociedad

Joshua Zirkzee scored his first goal in Europe for Manchester United but the Red Devils were held to a draw by Real Sociedad to leave their Europa League last-16 tie in the balance. Dutch forward Zirkzee deservedly put the visitors ahead but Real Sociedad equalised through a Mikel Oyarzabal penalty after Bruno Fernandes was adjudged to have handled the ball following a VAR review.

Mainoo stars as United secure last 16 spot with win at FCSB

Manchester United advanced straight to the Europa League last 16 as Kobbie Mainoo scored one and assisted another to help Ruben Amorim’s side to a win at FCSB. After a relatively drab first 60 minutes Mainoo’s low pass found wing-back Diogo Dalot, who was unmarked at the back post to comfortably tap United ahead. Eight minutes later the England midfielder got on to the scoresheet by side-footing home Alejandro Garnacho’s cut-back.

Rasmus Hojlund came off the bench to score twice as Manchester United fought back from a goal down to claim a vital Europa League win at Viktoria Plzen. The result lifts Ruben Amorim’s side into the top eight positions that would automatically see them qualify for the last 16 of the competition. Højlund sinks Bodø/Glimt to give Amorim first United win

Manchester United made a winning Old Trafford start under new boss Ruben Amorim as his side came from behind to beat Norwegian team Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. United scored after just 81 seconds in Amorim’s first game in charge at Ipswich, and took them just 48 seconds to find the net this time around.
