Brandon McNulty holds off Healy to win stage 15 – Giro d’Italia

American Brandon McNulty won a thrilling three-way sprint against Ireland’s Ben Healy and Italy’s Marco Frigo to take the “mini Lombardia” Stage 15 in Bergamo after a large 17-man breakaway went the distance in the sunshine of northern Italy. Frenchman Bruno Armirail lost touch with the GC favourites in the closing moments but retained the pink jersey ahead of Monday’s second rest day.

Denz doubles up as Bruno Armirail takes pink on stage 14 – Giro d’Italia

There is a new maglia rosa at the Giro d’Italia after Ineos Grenadiers allowed Bruno Armirail, who started the day 18’37” down on GC, to take the overall lead from the breakaway and spare Geraint Thomas the post-race obligations of leading a Grand Tour. Nico Denz took a brilliant victory on Stage 14 ahead of Derek Gee, adding to his win two days earlier.

Colombia’s Einer Rubio gave his Movistar team a first win on the Giro d’Italia in four years in a weather-shortened Stage 13 at Crans Montana. Rubio exploited a huge rift between breakaway companions Thibaut Pinot and Jefferson Cepeda to take a thrilling win in the Alps as Geraint Thomas survived a fourth day in the pink jersey.

Nico Denz wins stage 12 from the break – Giro d’Italia

It was another day for the breakaway on Stage 12 at the Giro d’Italia as Nico Denz claimed a maiden Grand Tour victory. Geraint Thomas ticked off another day in the leader’s pink jersey but will be acutely aware of bigger challenges to come with a brutal trip to the mountains arriving on Friday. He leads Primoz Roglic by two seconds, with Joao Almeida in third at 22″.
