The Republic of Ireland ended their season with a largely underwhelming 0-0 draw away to Luxembourg. The ‘end-of-term’ vibes were evident at Stade de Luxembourg as Ireland struggled to find any real rhythm against a side ranked 91st in the world, hitting the woodwork in both halves without looking like cutting the hosts apart.

McAteer on target as Ireland draw with Senegal

The Republic of Ireland had to settle for a share of the spoils as they drew 1-1 with Senegal at Aviva Stadium. Kasey McAteer making his first start for Heimir Hallgrimsson repaid the manager with the opening goal in the 21st minute and a man of the match performance. However Ismaila Sarr found the back of the net for the visitors as they earned a deserved draw.

Ireland set for June friendlies with Senegal and Luxembourg

Senegal will become the first African team to play at the Aviva Stadium when they visit Ireland for a friendly in June. Heimir Hallgrímsson’s side will then head to Luxembourg for another friendly, their last fixture before World Cup qualification begins in September. Ireland last faced an African side 15 years ago when Algeria visited Dublin with the home side running out 3-0 winners.

Ronaldo bags brace Portugal power past Ireland

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a fine double as a classy Portugal side signed off before Euro 2024 by comfortably beating the Republic of Ireland in Aveiro. Joao Felix opened the scoring for a much-changed Portugal side in the first half, curling home after the hosts caught the Republic out with a short corner. Ronaldo then fired an unstoppable effort into the top corner early in the second half and doubled his tally with a sweeping finish on the hour mark.

Parrott strikes late as Ireland beat Hungary

John O’Shea boosted his cause to become Republic of Ireland manager on a permanent basis after a 2-1 win over Euro 2024-bound Hungary. Troy Parrott scored a last-minute winner to earn O’Shea his first win as interim manager in a low-key affair at the Aviva Stadium. Adam Idah headed home the opener in the 36th minute before Adam Lang equalised four minutes later when he converted from close range.
