Egan Bernal cemented his status as pink jersey elect with a splendid solo victory in Cortina d’Ampezzo after a huge attack on the Passo Giau – not that fans were able to see it. Italy’s Giacomo Nizzolo took a belated first victory on the Giro d’Italia in Verona after coming from distance to power past compatriot Edoardo Affini in an exciting, if unorthodox, sprint finish to Stage 13. Nizzolo’s win came after the European champion’s run of 11 second places in his home race. Colombia’s Egan Bernal retained the pink jersey ahead of Saturday’s showdown on Monte Zoncolan.
