Jonas Vingegaard won the Giro d’Italia’s second mountain top finish on Sunday, attacking Felix Gall one kilometre from the line to take his second stage win of this year’s Giro d’Italia. Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM) attacked what remained of the GC favourite’s group just over 2km from the line, taking Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) with him, but the Austrian was unable to resist the Dane’s move under the flamme rouge.The maglia rosa Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain Victorious) was fifth and retains the overall lead.

Jhonatan Narvaez held off Andreas Leknessund to claim victory on stage eight of the Giro d’Italia. Ecuadorian Narvaez was part of a three-man breakaway, along with UAE Emirates-XRG team-mate Mikkel Bjerg and Uno-X Mobility’s Leknessund on the 156km stage, and made his move with about 10.5km left. Bjerg, having helped his team-mate, dropped off and Leknessund could not keep up with Narvaez, who went on to claim his second stage win of this year’s race – crossing the line following a gruelling final few kilometres.

Jonas Vingegaard put on an impressive breakaway ride to win stage seven of the Giro d’Italia and complete his set of Grand Tour stage victories. On the famous Blockahus climb, which featured 13.6km at gradients of up to 14%, the Dane – making his debut at the event – made his move with 5.5km to go. Vingegaard did the climb in a record 38 minutes 22 seconds as he won by 13 seconds from second-placed Felix Gall, of Austria.
