United sell Fellaini to Shandong Luneng Taishan

Maruoane Fellaini has left Manchester United to join Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng Taishan FC on a permanent deal.

Reports suggest the 31-year-old moved for £10.5m, signing a three-year deal at the club.

Fellaini travelled to China on Thursday to discuss personal terms – having already undergone a medical – after the two clubs reached an agreement in principle.

“Everybody at United thanks Marouane for his service and wishes him well for the future as he completes his move to in China,” a statement from Man Utd read.

The Belgium international joined United from Everton back in August 2013, and scored 22 goals in 177 appearances during his five-and-a-half seasons at the club.

Fellaini was signed by David Moyes and spent five and a half years at Old Trafford.

Fellaini lifted the FA Cup, Community Shield, League Cup and most notably the Europa League during his time at Old Trafford.

He was an important figure during Jose Mourinho’s reign.

Fellaini was rewarded over the summer with a new contract which is set to run until 2020, with the option of a further year.

However, he was limited to just 31 minutes in caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s opening nine games, before being allowed to leave Old Trafford.

While the transfer window closed in the UK on Thursday evening, Chinese clubs have until February 28 to complete deals.
