LIV Golf handed lifeline with potential $300m investment

LIV Golf has secured a potential $300m windfall from BC Partners Credit as it looks to continue into 2027.

It is understood LIV has officially entered into an RSA – a Restructuring Support Agreement – with BC Partners and the league is confident it can move ahead with LIV 2.0.

The league lost its multi-billion-dollar funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) following the end of the 2026 campaign and filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States.

LIV hopes a court-supervised “restructuring process” can be completed early next year.

This new agreement includes a commitment from BC Partners to provide funding, subject to court approval, with a hearing scheduled on October 14 to approve the deal.

The arrangement secures an extension for the league to discuss terms with its players, with talks now open until October 25.

It is believed there is no obligation on players, who are owed millions of pounds, to stick with LIV, regardless of whether they had previously signed multi-year contracts.

Ted Goldthorpe, partner and head of BC Partners Credit, said in a statement: “Our goal is to facilitate LIV Golf’s emergence from the restructuring process on sound financial footing and with renewed momentum heading into the 2027 season.”

LIV CEO Scott O’Neil says BC Partner Credit’s investment can help the league become ‘truly global’

BC Partners Credit will support the next stage of LIV, under which players would become equity owners of the league and its teams.

Major winners Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith and Dustin Johnson are among the players who signed with LIV following its creation in 2021 having been lured over from the PGA Tour.

Those golfers are some of the creditors listed with unsecured claims – Rahm heads that with £5.5m.

England’s Tyrrell Hatton (£2.5m) is among the creditors, as is five-time major winner Brooks Koepka (£1.25m), who quit LIV to re-join the PGA Tour earlier this year.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil said: “This investment is an important ‌step forward for LIV Golf, and I want to thank Ted Goldthorpe and the entire BC Partners team for their conviction in what we’re building.

“We believe ‌deeply in the future of this league and in the opportunity to build something distinctive alongside our players.

“We’re delivering on our major milestones, and while there is still work ahead, today marks meaningful progress toward a player-owned, team-focused, truly global league that complements the wider game and creates new opportunities for players, fans, partners, and the next generation of golfers.”

The league said the funding would enable it to move from the planning stage to operational execution.
