Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crossed the line second but a penalty saw him demoted to third with Sergio Perez second that switch swung the points in the 25 year olds’ favour to end the title fight.

The Dutchman received a reprimand from the stewards after a close call with McLaren’s Lando Norris on their out-laps in Q3. Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez start from the second row of the grid.

Nyck de Vries, who impressed many in the Formula 1 paddock with his points-scoring one-off performance for Williams in the Italian Grand Prix, has been handed a full-time drive for next season. The 27-year-old, who has previously been backed by McLaren and Mercedes, will drive for Red Bull’s junior team AlphaTauri.
