Primoz Roglic broke Magnus Cort’s heart to take his second win of La Vuelta after outkicking big rival Enric Mas on the ramped finale to Stage 11 once both riders had blasted past the last man standing from the day’s breakaway in Valdepenas de Jaen. Norway’s Odd Christian Eiking dug deep to retain the red jersey with a solid 10th place.

Primoz Roglic made a statement of intent in Stage 10 – and was then brought back down to earth with a bang. A crash on the final descent wiped out any advantages the Slovenian had made on his main GC rivals on a day he tactically conceded the red jersey to Odd Christian Eiking. Damiano Caruso (Bahrain – Victorious) won stage 9 of the Vuelta a Espana as Primoz Roglic (Team Jumbo-Visma) made a statement on finishing second after a 188km-ride from Puerto-Lumbreras to Alto de Velefique as Enric Mas (Movistar Team) finished third.
