Claudio Ranieri ends retirement to become Roma manager

Claudio Ranieri has been appointed head coach of Roma until the end of the season – six months after announcing his retirement. Ranieri has also taken on a role advising the Italian club’s owners and will help in the search for a permanent manager. At the end of the season the 73-year-old will “transition into a senior executive role”, the club said.

Roma sack Ivan Jurić following loss to Bologna

Roma have sacked Ivan Juric after only 12 matches in charge. The Croatian became the second Roma head coach to be fired this season after the side’s 3-2 home defeat by Bologna their fourth loss in the last five league games which left them 12th in the Serie A table. Juric was appointed in September after the dismissal of club legend Daniele de Rossi but he was unable to turn around the fortunes of the Giallorossi.

Paul Pogba doping ban reduced from four years to 18 months after appeal

Paul Pogba’s doping suspension has been cut to 18 months from an initial four years, the court of arbitration for sport (Cas) said on Friday. “The suspension is now 18 months, starting 11 September 2023,” the Cas director general Matthieu Reebsaid. Pogba was suspended in September 2023 after testing positive for DHEA – a banned substance that raises levels of testosterone.
