AC Milan have sacked head coach Massimiliano Allegri after failing to qualify for the Champions League, in a season the club’s hierarchy described as an “unequivocal failure”. Milan fell from third to fifth in Serie A after a 2-1 defeat by Cagliari on the final day to miss out on Champions League football for the second year in a row. Inter Milan, Napoli, Roma and Como – for the first time in their history – will represent Italy in Europe’s top-tier club competition next season while AC Milan join Juventus in the Europa League.

Juventus appoint Luciano Spalletti as new manager

Juventus have appointed former Italy head coach Luciano Spalletti as their manager until the end of the season. The 66-year-old replaces Igor Tudor, who was sacked after the Serie A side’s defeat by Lazio on Sunday. Tudor had joined the club in March as Thiago Motta’s replacement but left after seven months at the end of an eight-match winless run.

Juventus have sacked their head coach, Igor Tudor, after failing to win their last eight matches in all competitions, the Serie A club said on Monday. Tudor’s last game in charge was a 1-0 loss away to Lazio that leaves them eight in the Serie A standings. Massimo Brambilla, head coach of the reserve team, will temporarily take over as the first team manager with his first game coming at home to Udinese on Wednesday.

Champions League runners-up Inter Milan have appointed Parma boss Cristian Chivu as manager. The 44-year-old, a former defender and youth team coach at Inter, leaves Parma after only 13 games in charge and replaces Simone Inzaghi. The former Romania international was appointed by Parma in February – his first senior coaching role – winning three games as he steered Parma to Serie A safety.

Simone Inzaghi leaves Inter Milan by mutual agreement

Inter Milan and manager Simone Inzaghi have parted company “by mutual agreement” three days after their Champions League final thrashing by Paris St-Germain. The 49-year-old, who was appointed by the Serie A club in 2021, has been heavily linked with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. “The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year journey, during which I gave everything,” said Inzaghi, who won six trophies with Inter.
