Lance Stroll to miss pre-season testing after training accident

Aston Martin have announced that Lance Stroll will miss this week’s pre-season test at the Bahrain International Circuit following an accident while training.

Stroll was involved in what has been described as a “minor” incident and has picked up injuries that will rule him out of the three-day session from February 23-25.

Aston Martin added that they expect Stroll to make a “quick recovery” and return to driving duties in due course, with his fitness to be assessed daily.

An update will be issued ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, which is scheduled for March 3-5.

It is not clear whether Aston Martin will call on their reserve drivers, Stoffel Vandoorne and/or Felipe Drugovich, or let Fernando Alonso complete the full test in Stroll’s absence.

“I’ve had an unfortunate accident whilst training on my bike in preparation for the season,” said Stroll, explaining the situation in a press release issued by Aston Martin this afternoon.

“I am determined to get back in the car and I am excited about the season ahead with the team. I am motivated to bounce back from this setback as quickly as possible.”
