Red Bull swap Kyvat for Verstappen

Red Bull today announced their decision to drop driver Daniil Kyvat with immediate effect replacing the Russian driver with teen sensation Toro Rosso driver Max Verstappen.

18 year-old Verstappen who made his debut last season will move from Red Bull’s sister team Toro Rosso following Kyvat’s erratic drive at last week’s Russian Grand Prix. Kyvat crashed into Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel on two occasions on the opening lap ending the German’s race. These collisions with Vettle also damaged Kyvat’s teammate Daniel Ricciardo.

Verstappen's impressive debut season has attracted interest from other teams.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said “Max has proven to be an outstanding young talent. His performance at Toro Rosso has been impressive so far and we are pleased to give him the opportunity to drive for Red Bull Racing.”

“We are in the unique position to have all four drivers across Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso under long term contracts with Red Bull, so we have the flexibility to move them between the two teams.”

“Dany will be able to continue his development at Toro Rosso, in a team that he is familiar with, giving him the chance to regain his form and show his potential.”
