Home favourite Jonathan Milan saw off Tim Merlier in the final sprint to claim his second stage win of the Giro d’Italia on stage 11, while Slovenia’s Tadej Pogacar retained his overall lead. The 207km ride from Foiano di Val Fortore to Francavilla al Mare included a category three climb before a flat second half, allowing the sprinters to come the fore as Lidl-Trek’s Milan followed his stage four win by powering to victory.

Tadej Pogacar cruised home in a group of GC favourites to keep firm control of the maglia rosa on Stage 10 at the Giro d’Italia as Valentin Paret-Peintre stylishly conquered the Bocca della Selva summit finish from the breakaway. Paret-Peintre got the better of compatriot Romain Bardet before blasting past Jan Tratnik on his way to a first professional win of his career.

‘Breakaway or sprint?’ was the question on everyone’s lips prior to Stage 9 at the Giro d’Italia. It turned out to be both. Olav Kooij appeared out of nowhere to win the bunch sprint after a thrilling finish saw escapee Jhonatan Narvaez caught just metres from the line. The peloton will enjoy their first rest day on Monday ahead of the action resuming in Pompei on Tuesday.
