After suffering a late mechanical, Jonathan Milan was dragged back into the finale by his Lidl-Trek colleagues – but the Italian had spent too much energy to rival Merlier in the showdown. Barring incident or accident, Tadej Pogacar will win the Giro d’Italia on Sunday. Georg Steinhauser climbs to stage 17 victory on Passo Brocon – Giro d’Italia

It was a day to remember for Georg Steinhauser as he claimed his first professional win on the five-star mountain stage to Passo del Brocon. The 22-year-old, who caught the eye of race leader Tadej Pogacar last week with third place on the queen stage, rode solo for 34 kilometres to take an impressive victory. Meanwhile, Pogacar put more time into Dani Martinez and Geraint Thomas.
