Cameroon stun Brazil but fail to progress

A late goal by skipper Vincent Aboubakar ended Cameroon’s 20-year wait for a win at the World Cup as the Indomitable Lions bowed out in style by beating a much-changed Brazil 1-0 at the Lusail Stadium. With qualification already in the bag after wins over Serbia and Switzerland, Brazil still won Group G, ahead of Switzerland on goal difference, and will face Group H runners-up South Korea, who beat Portugal 2-1, in the next round.

Embolo earns Switzerland victory over Cameroon

Switzerland’s Breel Embolo scored the only goal against Cameroon – the country of his birth – in a hard-fought World Cup Group G opener. Embolo refused to celebrate when he finished off a slick Swiss attack shortly after half-time. The Indomitable Lions were unfortunate to lose after an enterprising display at the Al Janoub Stadium in Qatar.

Moore rescues point for Wales against Switzerland

Kieffer Moore scored a fine header as Wales rescued a point against Switzerland in their opening Group A match in Baku. The Swiss dominated the first half and took the lead shortly after the restart through Breel Embolo. They also saw what would have been a winning goal ruled out for offside.
