Verstappen reels in Piastri to win rain hit Sprint race at Spa

Max Verstappen caught and passed McLaren’s Oscar Piastri to win an incident-packed wet sprint race at the Belgian Grand Prix. Piastri, who started second behind Verstappen, took the lead as a result of stopping for a change to intermediate tyres as soon as the race was started following five laps behind the safety car. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was a surprise third.

Max Verstappen set the fastest time in Belgian Grand Prix qualifying but a grid penalty means Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will start from pole position. Alpine confirm Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer to leave role at end of Belgian GP

Alpine have announced that they will part ways with Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer by mutual agreement following the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix. Szafnauer will continue his duties as normal for this weekend’s race at Spa-Francorchamps, before leaving the team ahead of the August summer break.

Hamilton narrowly pips Verstappen to pole in Hungary

Lewis Hamilton claimed his first pole position in 595 days with a fine qualifying lap for Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix. Hamilton crossed the line at the Hungaroring just 0.003 seconds ahead of Red Bull rival Max Verstappen to take his first pole since the penultimate round of the 2021 season in Saudi Arabia. McLaren’s Lando Norris will start from third.
