Ireland got off to a dream start when, with just two minutes gone, Dutch skipper Virgil van Dijk was penalised for handling James McClean’s corner and Adam Idah fired home from the penalty spot. It was Greece captain Anastasios Bakasetas who stole the show in Athens, scoring a first-half penalty after Callum O’Dowda’s handball, before setting up Giorgos Masouras in the second half with a clever defence-splitting assist.
