Stanciu scores screamer as Romania dominate Ukraine

Romania recorded their first victory at a European Championship in 24 years with a stunning win over Ukraine in Group E. Captain Nicolae Stanciu gave Romania a surprise lead in the 29th minute, finding the top corner with a brilliant strike from 20 yards out. Razvan Marin then doubled the Tricolours’ lead after 53 minutes with Denis Dragus rounding out the scoring.

Kane on target as Arsenal rally to draw with Bayern

Harry Kane returned to north London with a goal as Arsenal’s Champions League hopes hang in the balance after they fought out a draw with Bayern Munich in the quarter-final first leg at Emirates Stadium. Kane scored from a spot kick to give the Germans the lead however Leandro Trossard scored a late equaliser to leave the tie finely posied.

The Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2024 automatic qualification hopes are over after a 2-0 home defeat to Greece. Stephen Kenny’s side could still make it to next summer’s tournament via the play-offs but that looks highly unlikely given their poor Nations League ranking.
