FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has been ruled out of Euro 2024 with the Netherlands due to injury. De Jong hasn’t played since being stretchered off in El Clasico in April but had linked up with the national team ahead of the European Championship. Yet it’s now been confirmed that De Jong won’t fly out to Germany with the squad for the tournament and will instead return to Barcelona for further treatment.

The Netherlands secured a place in the Euro 2024 finals as Wout Weghorst’s strike earned them a 1-0 home win over the Republic of Ireland. The Hoffenheim striker moved clear before rifling into the roof of the net after 11 minutes. Ireland got off to a dream start when, with just two minutes gone, Dutch skipper Virgil van Dijk was penalised for handling James McClean’s corner and Adam Idah fired home from the penalty spot. Louis van Gaal named Netherlands coach for third time

Louis van Gaal has been named as the new coach of the Netherlands, signing a deal through to next year’s World Cup final in Qatar, the Dutch football association said. It will be the 69 year old’s third stint as head coach of the national team.
