André Onana joins Trabzonspor on loan from Man United

Andre Onana has completed his loan move from Manchester United to Trabzonspor.

The goalkeeper has moved to Turkey for the rest of the campaign having fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford. Trabzonspor will cover Onana’s entire wages during the stint.

United added Belgian stopper Senne Lammens to their squad on deadline day, while Altay Bayindir has started all three Premier League games so far this season.

Onana’s only involvement has come in the Carabao Cup. He played the full game in the shock defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town and was at fault for at least one of the Mariners’ goals as United lost on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

The 29-year-old has not played a league game for United since mid May’s defeat to Chelsea and missed pre-season due to injury.

Lammens’ arrival promoted Onana to seek a new club.

He was then overlooked for the season opener against Arsenal despite being fit and has remained behind Bayindir despite unconvincing appearances from the Turkey international.

Bayindir seems set to retain the number one jersey for the Manchester derby on Sunday while veteran Tom Heaton is the third senior option.

Onana departs a little over two years since joining United from Inter Milan for an initial £43.8million. He had helped the Serie A side to the Champions League final in 2023 but has failed to convince since joining United, making a number of high-profile errors.

He could make his debut for Trabzonspor in Sunday’s game against Fenerbahce, where he could come up against former Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson who recently left the Etihad for Istanbul.
