Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard survived a late scare on the last descent of the decisive final time trial to Rocamadour, won by his Jumbo-Visma teammate Wout van Aert with consummate panache. Yellow jersey Vingegaard gave the green jersey a run for his money but eventually settled for second place 19 seconds down as he all but secured victory in the world’s biggest bike race.

Arsenal sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City for £30m

Oleksandr Zinchenko is the latest player to join Arsenal after leaving Manchester City for a move to the Gunners. Zinchenko, who can player in multiple positions including left-back and central midfield, will be reunited with Mikel Arteta, after the pair worked together when the Spaniard was Guardiola’s assistant at City between 2016 and 2019.

Christophe Laporte wins thrilling sprint finish on Stage 19 – Tour de France

Frenchman Christophe Laporte ended the host nation’s long wait for a win with an opportunistic surge at the end of Stage 19 to ride to glory in Cahors. Tadej Pogacar put in an audacious attack inside the final 35km but it came to nothing – although the defending champion’s fifth place in the final sprint saw him shave off five seconds from rival Jonas Vingegaard’s lead.
