Steven Gerrard will meet Rangers’ owners in London over the coming days to hold talks over a sensational return to Ibrox. The former Rangers boss was due to arrive on Wednesday evening and is scheduled to meet with Rangers’ American owners Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe, who are leading the hunt for a new head coach. Gerrard is one of a number of credible candidates Rangers plan to speak to this week, as they look to replace Russell Martin, who was sacked after Sunday’s draw at Falkirk.

Anthony Gordon scored two penalties against Union Saint-Gilloise as Newcastle United claimed a convincing first Champions League win of the season. Newcastle suffered a dramatic defeat at the hands of Arsenal on Sunday, but the clinical visitors looked like a side eager to respond as they secured their first away victory in the competition since 2003.
