Napoli appoint Rudi Garcia as new manager

Rudi Garcia has been named as Napoli’s new coach.

The 59-year-old replaces Luciano Spalletti, who has left the Italian club after clinching the Serie A title.

Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis said in an online post: “I am pleased to announce that, having met him frequently over the last 10 days, Mr Rudi Garcia will be the new coach of Napoli. To him the most sincere welcome and a big good luck!”

Garcia was sacked by Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr in April following their 0-0 draw against Al Feiha. There had been talk of disquiet in the dressing room as well as concerns over the Frenchman’s training methods.

Garcia joined Al Nassr in June 2022 and oversaw 16 wins, five draws and two defeats out of 23 Saudi Pro League matches.

The Frenchman has had extensive managerial experience having previously coached nine clubs including the likes of Lyon, Marseille, Roma and Lille.

He will be hoping to replicate Spalletti’s success, who guided Napoli to 90 points during the 2022-23 season.

The club have not specified the length of the Frenchman’s contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
