Valtteri Bottas has taken a new engine for the United States Grand Prix and will therefore take a grid penalty for this weekend’s race at Circuit of The Americas, joining Williams’ George Russell and Sebastian Vettel of Aston Martin, who have also been hit with penalties for changing Mercedes power unit components.

Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas converted pole position into victory at the Turkish Grand Prix with the Red Bull duo of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez completing the podium. Verstappen’s title rival Lewis Hamilton finished fifth meaning the Dutchman now leads the World Championship.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz will start from the back of the grid in this weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix as a result of penalties for exceeding his engine allocation. Team mate Charles Leclerc started at the back for the previous race in Russia for the same reason.

The Qatar Grand Prix has joined the 2021 Formula 1 calendar, with a November date confirmed for the debut race that completes the season’s schedule. F1 has also announced a 10-year deal with Qatar, which will see it take a permanent place on the calendar from 2023.
