Formula 1 to return to Turkey from 2027

The Turkish Grand Prix will return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2027 for the first time in six years. The event will run on the Istanbul Park circuit until at least 2031. The track is where Lewis Hamilton clinched his record-equalling seventh world drivers’ title in 2020. Turkey held a grand prix from 2005 to 2011 before dropping off the schedule, alhough it returned for two years in 2020-21 when F1 needed venues to fill the calendar during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bottas wins in Turkey as Verstappen takes Championship lead

Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas converted pole position into victory at the Turkish Grand Prix with the Red Bull duo of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez completing the podium. Verstappen’s title rival Lewis Hamilton finished fifth meaning the Dutchman now leads the World Championship.

Lewis Hamilton topped qualifying for the Turkish GP but it is team-mate Valtteri Bottas who will start on pole due to the championship leader’s grid penalty, with Max Verstappen moved up to the front row. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will start third after a superb session.

Carlos Sainz to start Turkish GP from the back due to engine change

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz will start from the back of the grid in this weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix as a result of penalties for exceeding his engine allocation. Team mate Charles Leclerc started at the back for the previous race in Russia for the same reason.

Turkish Grand Prix rejoins 2021 F1 Calendar

The Turkish Grand Prix has been added once again to the 2021 Formula 1 race calendar replacing the Singapore Grand Prix. The Turkish Grand Prix had previously been added to the calendar but was then removed due to Covid-19 travel restrictions however it will now host round 16 of the championship.
