Piastri beats Norris to pole ahead of Qatar Sprint

Max Verstappen could qualify only third for the sprint race in which he could clinch a third world title as McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took pole. The Australian rookie, demoted from fourth place in Qatar Grand Prix qualifying on Friday, beat team-mate Lando Norris by 0.082 seconds. Verstappen was 0.192secs off the pace, and ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen put in a stunning performance to set pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix. The Dutchman was a massive 0.581 seconds clear of the impressive Oscar Piastri in second, 0.035secs ahead of McLaren team-mate Lando Norris. Sainz shines to take pole position in Singapore

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz edged out George Russell’s Mercedes for pole position as Max Verstappen qualified 11th at the Singapore Grand Prix. Verstappen swore over the team radio as he struggled with his unexpectedly uncompetitive Red Bull, which threatens to end his record-breaking run of wins. Sainz beat Russell by 0.072 seconds while the Englishman was just 0.007secs ahead of Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari.
