Real Madrid edged an impassioned El Clasico at the Bernabeu to beat Barcelona 2-1 and go five points clear at the top of La Liga. Kylian Mbappe fired Los Blancos ahead before Fermin Lopez brought Barca level however a Jude Bellingham header proved decisive before the interval. The Catalan giants will play in their home stadium once again on August 10, 2025, a date which the club says will be “a milestone that will mark the partial reopening of the Club’s new home as part of the wider Espai Barça transformation project.”

Hansi Flick has been rewarded for an outstanding first campaign with Barcelona by signing a contract extension until 2027. Flick, a treble-winning coach with Bayern Munich who signed for the club last year on a two-year deal, arrived in Barcelona eager to redeem himself after he was sacked by Germany in September 2023. The German was appointed as head coach prior to the 2024-25 season and has been rewarded for a campaign that has yield LaLiga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana success.

Barcelona have been crowned Spanish champions for a 28th time after a 2-0 victory over Espanyol on Thursday evening. The win means Barça have an unassailable lead at the top of La Liga. They are seven points clear of Real Madrid with only two games left to play. Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal scored early in the second half and teed up substitute Fermin Lopez who added a late second to secure the league title.
