Igor Thiago scored his first Premier League goal of the season as unbeaten Brentford scored three times in the second half to beat west London neighbours Chelsea convincingly. Brentford opened the scoring in the 61st minute through Jaidon Anthony Chelsea pushed hard for an equaliser but were hit on the counter-attack late on with Thiago on hand to give the Bees breathing-room.

Newcastle United have confirmed the appointment of Matthias Jaissle as the club’s new head coach following the departure of Eddie Howe. The 38-year-old former Al Ahli boss, who met up with the players at their preseason training camp in Spain’s La Manga over the weekend, has started work after the relevant paperwork was finally completed. Newcastle are reported to have paid significant compensation to Al Ahli, in excess of £9 million to secure Jaissle’s services on a four-year deal.

Kieran McKenna steps down as Ipswich manager

Kieran McKenna has resigned as Ipswich Town manager, just weeks after clinching a return to the Premier League. The 40-year-old took charge of the Tractor Boys in 2021 and guided them to three promotions in the past four seasons, two of which have taken the club into the top flight. Former Wolves head coach Gary O’Neil – currently boss of Strasbourg – is one manager in the frame to replace McKenna.

Liverpool have appointed Andoni Iraola as their head coach on a two-year contract following the sacking of Arne Slot. The Reds announced Slot’s exit on Saturday, a year after the Dutchman guided them to the Premier League title, and have moved swiftly to bring in a successor. Former Bournemouth manager Iraola, 43, joins after delivering the Cherries’ finest top-flight season to date, finishing in sixth place.
