Arsenal sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle in £75m deal

Arsenal have completed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United on a four-year deal. The 28-year-old midfielder joins the Gunners for a fee understood to be £75m (€88m) and the contract includes a further one-year option. Guimaraes arrived at Newcastle in January 2022 and leaves the club after making 195 appearances, scoring 31 goals along the way.

Newcastle appoint Matthias Jaissle as new manager

Newcastle United have confirmed the appointment of Matthias Jaissle as the club’s new head coach following the departure of Eddie Howe. The 38-year-old former Al Ahli boss, who met up with the players at their preseason training camp in Spain’s La Manga over the weekend, has started work after the relevant paperwork was finally completed. Newcastle are reported to have paid significant compensation to Al Ahli, in excess of £9 million to secure Jaissle’s services on a four-year deal.

Sunderland stun Newcastle in derby as Brobbey grabs late winner

Brian Brobbey’s last-gasp winner fired Sunderland to a famous derby double over Newcastle as they came from behind to win 2-1 at St James’ Park. Gordon bags four goals as Newcastle United demolish Qarabag

Anthony Gordon scored four goals as rampant Newcastle United blew Qarabag away to take control of their last 16 Champions League play-off tie. It took Gordon just two minutes to open the scoring after the latched on to a through ball from marauding centre-back Dan Burn and finished coolly past goalkeeper Mateusz Kochalski into the bottom corner. Newcastle did not let up from that moment and lead by five at the interval.

Man City cruise past Newcastle into Carabao Cup final

Manchester City booked a tantalising Carabao Cup final against Premier League leaders Arsenal by hammering holders Newcastle 5-1 on aggregate in a one-sided semi-final. Omar Marmoush scored twice early on before Tijjani Reijnders put the outcome beyond the doubt before the first half was through. Newcastle made a better fist of it after the interval, Anthony Elanga pulling one goal back, but the tie was a lost cause by then.
