Lando Norris storms to pole for Qatar Sprint

McLaren’s Lando Norris took pole position for the sprint race at the Qatar Grand Prix ahead of Mercedes driver George Russell. Norris pipped Russell by just 0.063 seconds, with the second McLaren of Oscar Piastri in third place. Ferrari, who are competing with McLaren for the constructors’ championship, were fourth and fifth, Carlos Sainz 0.027secs faster than Charles Leclerc.

Sheikh Jassim withdraws from Manchester United bidding process

Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has withdrawn from the process to buy Manchester United. Sheikh Jassim had bid £5bn for the club but further talks this week have broken down. The Glazer family, who bought United for £790m in 2005, announced in November 2022 they were considering selling.

Luis Enrique replaces Christophe Galtier as PSG manager

Paris Saint-Germain fired coach Christophe Galtier after a disappointing season on Wednesday and replaced him with former Spain and Barcelona manager Luis Enrique. Enrique was introduced at a press conference hours after Galtier was dismissed. Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said his arrival will mark the start of a “new cycle, with a new style of play.”

Argentina edge France on penalties in epic World Cup Final

ionel Messi finally achieved his World Cup dream as Argentina won their third crown on penalties following one of the greatest finals in the tournament’s history at Lusail Stadium. Argentina won the shootout 4-2 after a spectacular game which developed into the much-anticipated confrontation between Messi and Mbappe, the Frenchman scoring a hat-trick but still ended up on the losing side.

Croatia edge out Morocco to finish third at World Cup

Croatia showed their class once more by clinching their third top-three finish at the World Cup with a play-off victory over history-makers Morocco. In a frantic opening, Josko Gvardiol gave Croatia the lead with a superb diving header but Achraf Dari levelled just two minutes later before Mislav Orsic curled in a sumptuous second for Croatia.
