Barcelona collapse at Girona to hand Real Madrid La Liga title

Real Madrid were crowned champions of La Liga for the 36th time after FC Barcelona suffered a 4-2 defeat by Girona. The Catalans took an early lead through Andres Christensen but were soon pegged back by Artem Dovbyk. Barca regained the lead but Cristian Portu’s brace from the bench turned the tie on its head ultimately ending the title race.

Manchester United produced a memorable second-half comeback to reach the Europa League last 16 and knock out Barcelona in the process. A Robert Lewandowski penalty had the Red Devils behind at the break but goals from Fred and substitute Antony flipped the game on its head.

Olivier Giroud became France’s all-time leading goalscorer as the World Cup holders coasted past Poland to reach the quarter-finals. The AC Milan striker scored his 52nd goal for France to claim the country’s outright record, surpassing the great Thierry Henry while Kylian Mbappe scored a fine brace to put the result beyond doubt.
