Max Verstappen caught and passed McLaren’s Oscar Piastri to win an incident-packed wet sprint race at the Belgian Grand Prix. Piastri, who started second behind Verstappen, took the lead as a result of stopping for a change to intermediate tyres as soon as the race was started following five laps behind the safety car. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was a surprise third.

Max Verstappen set the fastest time in Belgian Grand Prix qualifying but a grid penalty means Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will start from pole position.
