Warren Gatland leaves post as Wales head coach

Warren Gatland has left his role as Wales head coach during the Six Nations after a record 14 successive Test match defeats.Gatland, 61, was contracted until the 2027 World Cup but has departed by mutual consent, the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) confirmed. Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt will take over as interim head coach for the remaining three games of the Six Nations.

Italy piled more misery on Wales by dominating a cagey Six Nations basement battle in Rome. Ange Capuozzo’s acrobatic finish gave the hosts a lead they never looked like relinquishing at Stadio Olimpico. Italy beat Wales in Cardiff to achieve their most successful Six Nations campaign and consign their hosts to a first Wooden Spoon in 21 years. A try from wing Monty Ioane and two Paulo Garbisi penalties gave Italy an 11-0 half-time lead. Lorenzo Pani added a brilliant score with Garbisi and Martin Page-Relo kicking penalties. Wales responded with tries from Elliot Dee, Will Rowlands and Mason Grady to give the score some respectability.

France power to victory against spirited Wales

France overpowered winless Wales in an eight-try Six Nations thriller in Cardiff. France scored tries through Gael Fickou, Nolann Le Garrec, Georges-Henri Colombe, Romain Taofifenua and Maxime Lucu, with Thomas Ramos adding 20 points. Wales managed tries from Rio Dyer, Tomos Williams and Joe Roberts but were outmuscled in the second half.
