Switzerland had seen an early lead evaporate as France roared into a 3-1 lead however the Swiss fought back to force extra time and ultimately a penalty shootout which secures them a quarter-final tie against Spain.

Spain saw a two goal lead evaporate before mounting a comeback of their own to defeat Croatia 3-5 after extra-time. Spain fell behind through a bizarre own goal but recovered and seemed to have put the game to bed before Croatia rallied to force extra time. Tim Merlier won a dramatic stage three of the Tour de France as a string of crashes caused chaos in the final 10 kilometres. Geraint Thomas and Primoz Roglic both suffered painful tumbles and lost time, defending champion Tadej Pogacar was held up by an incident inside the last four kilometres, while both Mark Cavendish and Caleb Ewan were denied the opportunity to contest the stage.
