Liverpool to face PSG in Champions League Last 16

Premier League leaders Liverpool will face Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League while holders Real Madrid will play city rivals Atletico Madrid.

The Reds topped the league phase of the competition with seven wins from their eight matches and must now topple the French champions to progress.

Liverpool and PSG last met in the group phase in 2018-19, the year the Reds went on to win the trophy for the sixth time.

Aston Villa have been drawn against Belgium’s Club Brugge after successfully negotiating the league stage on their first appearance since the 1982/83 season.

If Unai Emery’s side come through that then they will play the winners of PSG-Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

The Belgians beat Villa in the league phase, one of only two defeats suffered by Unai Emery’s side.

Holders Real Madrid will face city rivals Atletico.

Arsenal will face Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven, who knocked out Juventus in the knockout play-off round.

Arsenal and PSV have met on 10 previous occasions, but PSV won the only knockout encounter between the teams – a last-16 match-up in 2007.

The prize for the Gunners would be a quarter-final with the victor of the Madrid derby.

The other Dutch representatives, Feyenoord, have been pitted with Inter Milan. The victors will play the winners of a German derby between Bayern Munich and reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Last year’s runners up Borussia Dortmund face French side Lille, setting up a quarter-final against Barcelona or Benfica.

The Premier League sides are all away in the first legs, which will be played on 4/5 March. The return legs are on March 11 and 12.
