Charles Leclerc extends contract at Ferrari beyond 2024 season

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc says he is “pleased” to have extended his contract with the team for “several more seasons to come”. The 26-year-old made his Formula 1 debut with Sauber before signing a five-year contract after an impressive first season with the team in 2019. Monegasque Leclerc finished fifth in the drivers’ championship last season.

Guenther Steiner leaves role as team principal of Haas as Ayao Komatsu takes over

Guenther Steiner has left Haas with immediate effect ahead of the 2024 F1 season after the team’s disappointing performances. Ayao Komatsu has been promoted from director of engineering to team principal ahead of the new season, the 47 year old will be charged with lifting the team off the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship.

F1 announces six sprint venues for 2024 season

China, Miami, Austria, Austin, Sao Paulo and Qatar are the six grands prix chosen to host ‘sprint’ events during the 2024 Formula 1 season. F1 announced the list of races on Tuesday, and said changes to the format of the events were under discussion. A plan to move qualifying for the sprint to Friday and hold the shorter race on Saturday before grand prix qualifying has been effectively agreed.

Williams have confirmed American Logan Sargeant will remain with the team for a second season. Sargeant, 22, scored one point during his debut campaign and will line up next year at Williams alongside London-born Thai Alex Albon. Williams’ announcement completes the 20-driver grid for 2024.

Verstappen eases to victory in Abu Dhabi season finale

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen ended the most dominant season in Formula 1 history with victory in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, his 19th win in 22 races. The comfortable victory, after brushing off a brief challenge from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc on the opening lap, gives Verstappen an 86.4% win rate in 2023. George Russell finished P3 for Mercedes to secure second place in the Constructor standings.
