Russell fends off Ferrari duo to win Sprint race in China

Mercedes’ George Russell won the sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix after a frantic scrap in the early laps with Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari. Russell and Hamilton swapped places five times in the first five laps before the winner of the first race of the season eased away to a comfortable victory. Hamilton lost out to team-mate Charles Leclerc three laps after Russell finally passed him for the lead as the Ferraris took second and third.

Russell eases to pole ahead of Shanghai Sprint

George Russell led team-mate Kimi Antonelli as Mercedes dominated qualifying for the sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix. Russell was 0.289 seconds clear of the Italian and a massive 0.621secs ahead of the first non-Mercedes, world champion Lando Norris in the McLaren. Lewis Hamilton was fourth for Ferrari, just 0.02secs slower than Norris, while McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took fifth ahead of the second Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.

Hamilton storms to Sprint victory and first Ferrari win in China

ewis Hamilton took his first win for Ferrari on only his second outing for the team with a dominant victory in the sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix. The seven-time champion fended off a challenge from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen on the run to the first corner and controlled the race from there. Verstappen fell back from the Ferrari after a few laps into the clutches of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who passed the world champion with five laps to go.

Hamilton takes Sprint pole ahead of Verstappen in China

A “gobsmacked” Lewis Hamilton said he was in shock after he landed his first pole position in Ferrari colours for Saturday’s sprint race in China. Hamilton who edged out Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by just 0.018 seconds while the much fancied McLaren duo struggled with Oscar Piastri qualifying third as Lando Norris had to settle for sixth behind Charles Leclerc and George Russell.

Verstappen charges to Sprint victory in China

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen fought past the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso to win the Chinese Grand Prix sprint race. Pole sitter Lando Norris suffered a poor start trying to fend off Hamilton dropping back, Alonso hung on until late on when Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz overtook him before Red Bull’s Sergio Perez took advantage to pass both for third.
