Manchester United survived a real FA Cup fourth-round scare at Newport County before finally seeing off the League Two side’s brave attempt at a giant-killing. United made a flying start and looked to have wrapped the tie up when a smooth finish from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo’s first senior goal gave them a 2-0 lead inside 13 minutes but found themselves level early in the second half.

Tottenham came from behind twice to draw 2-2 and deny Manchester United victory in front of the watching Sir Jim Ratcliffe at Old Trafford. Rasmus Hojlund put Erik ten Hag’s team in front with a powerful early effort but Richarlison headed in the first equaliser and though Marcus Rashford restored United’s advantage, Rodrigo Bentancur levelled again at the start of the second half.

Donny van de Beek set to join Eintracht Frankfurt on loan

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is set to join Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on loan for the rest of the season when the January transfer window opens. Van de Beek has made just six Premier League starts since joining United from Ajax for £35m in September 2020.
