Colombia’s Miguel Angel Lopez emerged through the mist to take a splendid victory in Stage 18 on the Vuelta’s first ever ascent of the fearsome Altu d’El Gamoniteiru. Slovenia’s Primoz Roglic soared to second place to strengthen his grip on the red jersey as Movistar teammates Enric Mas and Lopez consolidated their positions on the podium.

Primoz Roglic’s third win of La Vuelta saw the defending champion take back the red jersey for a third time after a commanding Stage 17 win at Lagos de Covadonga. After Roglic followed Egan Bernal’s attack with 60km remaining, the Slovenian dropped the Colombian on the final climb. Sepp Kuss completed a Jumbo-Visma one-two as Odd Christian Eiking crashed out of red.

Rafal Majka solos to stage 15 victory – Vuelta a España

The veteran Polish UAE Team Emirates rider Rafal Majka took control of stage 15 with a hefty 90km to go and finished 1 minute 27 seconds ahead of Steven Kruijswijk (Jumbo-Visma) who came in second. Chris Hamilton (Team DSM) was third while Odd Christian Eiking retains the red jersey.
