Manchester United appoint Rúben Amorim as new manager

Manchester United have appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach. The 39-year-old Portuguese, who will move to Old Trafford from Lisbon club Sporting on 11 November, has signed a contract until June 2027. Former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took charge on an interim basis after Erik ten Hag was sacked on Monday, will stay on for the club’s next three fixtures.

Manchester United have sacked manager Erik ten Hag following the club’s poor start to the season. Ten Hag’s final game was Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham that left the club 14th in the Premier League. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the club as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, has been named as interim manager.

John O’Shea appointed interim Republic of Ireland manager

The FAI’s long search for a new permanent head coach is set to continue with the association announcing that an appointment will be made in early April, with John O’Shea today named interim boss for the March window. The former Man United player will be assisted for Paddy McCarthy for the games against Belgium and Switzerland.
