Max Verstappen took his first grand prix pole position for six months by beating George Russell by five hundredths of a second in Qatar. The world champion completed a remarkable turnaround for Red Bull from Saturday’s earlier sprint race, denying Russell to secure his first pole since June. Lando Norris gave up victory in the Qatar Grand Prix sprint race to team-mate Oscar Piastri as they crossed the line ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell. As a payback for Piastri handing victory in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix sprint race to Norris earlier this month, the Briton slowed on the final straight to allow the Australian to cross the line first. Norris had led the race from the start and helped Piastri defend from Russell’s attacks.

McLaren’s Lando Norris took pole position for the sprint race at the Qatar Grand Prix ahead of Mercedes driver George Russell. Norris pipped Russell by just 0.063 seconds, with the second McLaren of Oscar Piastri in third place. Ferrari, who are competing with McLaren for the constructors’ championship, were fourth and fifth, Carlos Sainz 0.027secs faster than Charles Leclerc.

Lewis Hamilton lost his second-place finish at the United States Grand Prix after being disqualified when his Mercedes failed a physical floor and plank wear inspection after Sunday’s race. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was found guilty of the same offence, and also disqualified from his sixth-place finish.

Max Verstappen climbed up from sixth on the grid to win the US Grand Prix after a close battle with McLaren’s Lando Norris and the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen was measured, slowly picking off the cars in front of him and then managing his pace to take a 14th victory of his record-breaking season.
