Paris St-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi says he is set to face trial after an allegation of rape was made against him. A woman has accused the Morocco captain of raping her at his home in the French capital in 2023, when she was aged 24. He denies the allegations. The public prosecutor’s office in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris, began a preliminary investigation in March 2023.

Anthony Joshua injured in fatal car crash in Nigeria

Two of Anthony Joshua’s “close friends and team members” were killed in the car crash in Nigeria in which the British heavyweight boxer was injured. Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele died when the vehicle they were in, alongside Joshua and another passenger, collided with a stationary truck on a major road near Lagos. Joshua is stable and conscious and did not require emergency medical help, according to Ogun state government.

PGA Tour cancels 2026 season-opening tournament

The PGA Tour has cancelled its 2026 season-opening event in Hawaii after failing to find an alternative venue to host The Sentry. The tournament, which was to be played from 8-11 January, had to be moved from the Plantation Course at Kapalua on the Island of Maui because of drought conditions. However, the PGA Tour said that, “having assessed alternate venues in Hawaii and beyond” it could not play the tournament because of “logistical challenges”.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion, 38, reached the semi-finals of all four major tournaments this year.
