Southampton kicked out of Championship playoff final and docked four points for spying

Southampton have been thrown out of the play-offs after admitting they spied on three clubs in the Championship season. Middlesbrough, beaten by Southampton in the semi-final, have been reinstated and will now play Hull City for a place in the Premier League. The EFL charged Saints with watching training sessions involving Oxford United and Ipswich Town, in addition to filming Middlesbrough as they prepared for the first leg of their play-off semi-final on 7 May.

Sheffield Wednesday handed further six-point deduction

Sheffield Wednesday have been given a further six-point deduction by the English Football League for regulation breaches leaving them 27 points from safety in the Championship. Former owner Dejphon Chansiri has also received a three-year ban from owning or being a director at any EFL club. Their latest deduction follows the failure to pay players in March, May and June, as well as other non-payments to staff and HMRC.

Rob Edwards confirmed as new Wolves head coach

Wolves have appointed Rob Edwards as their new head coach after he left Middlesbrough to join the Premier League’s bottom side. Edwards has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Molineux. The 42-year-old had been in talks with Wolves since Saturday after he was stood down from Boro’s Championship game against Birmingham and was given permission to speak to Wolves.

Man City have agreed a deal worth up to £36.3m for Wolves left-back Rayan Ait Nouri. The 23-year-old is now free to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical. City are hopeful of getting Ait Nouri’s medical completed and the deal finalised before Tuesday’s 7pm deadline which will allow him to play in the Club World Cup.

Liam Delap joins Chelsea from Ipswich for £30m

Chelsea have strengthened their attack by completing the £30m signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich. The club were determined to bring in a new striker this summer and have moved swiftly to secure one of their top targets. Delap, who has signed a six-year deal, chose to join Chelsea after receiving pitches from Everton, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.
