Leverkusen extend unbeaten run en route to final – Europa League

Bayer Leverkusen set a new European unbeaten record of 49 successive games in securing a late draw with Roma to reach the Europa League final. Josip Stanisic scored with the last kick of the game in the 97th minute to earn Xabi Alonso’s side a 2-2 draw on the night and a 4-2 aggregate victory. Roma drew level in the tie through two Leandro Paredes penalties but were stunned by yet another late Leverkusen comeback.

Kimmich heads Bayern into last four at expense of Arsenal

Arsenal made a bitterly disappointing exit from the Champions League as they were beaten by Bayern Munich in a euphoric atmosphere at Allianz Arena. Joshua Kimmich’s powerful 63rd-minute header from Raphael Guerreiro’s cross was enough to send the Germans through to the semi-finals 3-2 on aggregate after the two teams had drawn 2-2 in London in the first leg.

Barcelona beat Napoli to reach quarter-finals

FC Barcelona reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in four years with an entertaining victory over Napoli. Fermin Lopez and Joao Cancelo put Barcelona on their way but the hosts were made to work hard by the Italian side who pulled one back through Amir Rrahmani. Robert Lewandowski’s close-range finish with seven minutes from time settled the tie.

Newcastle exit Europe with loss to Milan

Newcastle United’s Champions League campaign ended in heartbreak on a night of emotion and drama on Tyneside, as AC Milan came from behind to win at St James’ Park and send them out of Europe. The Toon Army were dreaming of a place in the knockout stages when they took the lead through Joelinton’s 33rd-minute thunderbolt while Borussia Dortmund led against Paris St-Germain in Germany.
