A fantastic day for Bahrain Victorious saw Alec Segaert soar to a surprise win in Stage 12 at Novi Ligure after race leader Afonso Eulalio extended his grip on the pink jersey by six seconds over his rivals after sprinting clear at the Red Bull KM. If Portuguese climber Eulalio now leads Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard by 33 seconds after thriving on his eighth day in the fabled maglia rosa, all eyes at the finish were on his Belgian team-mate Segaert, who launched emphatically with 3km remaining to steal a march over everyone else in the reduced peloton.

Narváez outsprints Mas to complete hat-trick of wins on stage 11 – Giro d’Italia

Ecuador’s Jhonathan Narvaez took his third victory of the Giro d’Italia – and a fourth triumph for UAE Team Emirates-XRG – by out-kicking Spain’s Enric Mas (Movistar) in a thrilling conclusion to Stage 11 in Chiavari on the Ligurian coast. Narvaez and Mas were part of a stellar 17-man move that eventually came together, veteran climber Mas tried his best to distance his breakaway companions on the succession of punchy climbs – but the 31-year-old met his match in the in-form Narvaez, who clung on before showing his class on the flat dash to the line.

Filippo Ganna dominates stage 10 individual time trial as GC shakes up – Giro d’Italia

Italy’s Filippo Ganna dominated the stage 10 time trial at the Giro d’Italia, with a winning margin of nearly two minutes. Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark, favourite to take the pink jersey finished 13th, three minutes down. Two-time Tour de France winner Vingegaard, of Visma-Lease a Bike, failed to take the pink jersey as some thought he would. It meant Portugal’s unfancied Afonso Eulalio remained in the leader’s jersey for a sixth day. Vingegaard, however, gained time on Bahrain-Victorious’ Eulalio now just 27 seconds off the lead.

Jonas Vingegaard won the Giro d’Italia’s second mountain top finish on Sunday, attacking Felix Gall one kilometre from the line to take his second stage win of this year’s Giro d’Italia. Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM) attacked what remained of the GC favourite’s group just over 2km from the line, taking Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) with him, but the Austrian was unable to resist the Dane’s move under the flamme rouge.The maglia rosa Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain Victorious) was fifth and retains the overall lead.

Narváez doubles up with stage 8 victory – Giro d’Italia

Jhonatan Narvaez held off Andreas Leknessund to claim victory on stage eight of the Giro d’Italia. Ecuadorian Narvaez was part of a three-man breakaway, along with UAE Emirates-XRG team-mate Mikkel Bjerg and Uno-X Mobility’s Leknessund on the 156km stage, and made his move with about 10.5km left. Bjerg, having helped his team-mate, dropped off and Leknessund could not keep up with Narvaez, who went on to claim his second stage win of this year’s race – crossing the line following a gruelling final few kilometres.
