Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has withdrawn from the process to buy Manchester United. Sheikh Jassim had bid £5bn for the club but further talks this week have broken down. The Glazer family, who bought United for £790m in 2005, announced in November 2022 they were considering selling.

Wolves appoint Gary O’Neil as new manager

Wolves have moved swiftly to install Gary O’Neil as Julen Lopetegui’s replacement as head coach. The 40-year-old, the club’s first British coach in six years, was sacked by Bournemouth in June despite guiding the Cherries to survival. He has signed a three-year deal after Wolves and Lopetegui came to an “agreement to part ways” on Tuesday.

Julen Lopetegui departs Wolves three days before start of season

Spanish manager Julen Lopetegui has left Wolverhampton Wanderers after less than a year in charge following differences of opinion, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday, three days before the start of the new season. The 56-year-old former Real Madrid and Sevilla coach was reportedly unhappy with the lack of investment in the squad.
