The iconic San Siro stadium home to both AC and Inter Milan could be demolished after the City council approved the sale of the stadium. Both clubs have expressed a desire to demolish one of Europe’s most iconic stadiums to allow for the construction of a new stadium on the site on the edge of the city.

Inter Milan produced a dramatic late turnaround to beat FC Barcelona 7-6 on aggregate in a thrilling, all-time classic of a Champions League semi-final. Inter had raced into a two goal lead in the first half but Barcelona found themselves minutes away from their first final appearances in 10 years thanks to a second half fightback. The Catalans slipped up allowing Francesco Acerbi to snatch a late equaliser before Davide Frattesi popped up in extra time to decide the tie.

Concerns over the future of San Siro mean it will not host the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League final. The governing body has stripped the stadium of the rights to stage the game, as its future remains up in the air. UEFA are worried “the Municipality of Milano could not guarantee that the San Siro and its surroundings would not be affected by refurbishments” and have re-opened the bidding process.
