Gareth Southgate resigns as England manager

England manager Gareth Southgate has resigned two days after defeat by Spain in the 2024 European Championship final. The Three Lions lost 2-1 in Berlin on Sunday – their second consecutive Euros final defeat, having been beaten on penalties by Italy at Wembley three years ago. Southgate, 53, managed his country for 102 games in eight years in charge. His contract was set to expire later this year.

Oyarzabal strikes late as Spain win Euro 2024

Substitute Mikel Oyarzabal scored four minutes from time to give Spain a deserved 2-1 Euro 2024 final victory over England on Sunday and a record fourth European crown, as Gareth Southgate’s team lost in their second successive final. Pogačar drops Vingegaard to take empathic win on stage 15 – Tour de France

Tadej Pogacar put on a climbing exhibition on Bastille Day to complete back-to-back wins in the Pyrenees and put one foot on the final podium ahead of the second rest day. The Slovenian dropped his big rival Jonas Vingegaard with 5km to go of the final climb on Plateau de Beille, which he ascended in a record-breaking time to strengthen his grip on the yellow jersey.
