EFL clubs to vote on expanding Championship playoffs

EFL clubs will next month vote on an expansion of the Championship playoffs to six teams after being given approval to pursue the radical change by the Football Association’s board. The 72 EFL clubs were on Tuesday invited to an extraordinary general meeting on 5 March, when the vote will take place on a new playoff format that would begin next season. A simple majority of the 72 clubs and 24 in the Championship – 37 and 13 votes in favour respectively – is required to formalise a regulation change.

Sunderland stun Sheffield United to secure return to Premier League

Teenager Tommy Watson scored a 95th-minute winner to send Sunderland up to the Premier League and deny Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium. Jamie Vardy to leave Leicester City after 13 seasons

Premier League winner Jamie Vardy will leave Leicester after 13 seasons at the end of the current campaign, the club have announced. The 38-year-old England striker, a key member of the team which lifted the title against the odds in 2016, will depart with almost 500 appearances for the club to his name in the wake of a relegation he has described as “such a s*** show”.
